On Capitol Hill
People For the American Way works to advance a progressive legislative agenda on Capitol Hill. We are in frequent, daily contact with Congressional offices to express opposition to restrictive legislation, and to advocate on behalf of bills and amendments that safeguard Americans' rights and liberties and promote quality public education.
Forces on the right are well organized and well represented on Capitol Hill. Bill by bill, amendment by amendment, the right attempts to blur the lines between church and state and to turn back the clock on civil liberties, and to whittle away at reproductive rights. People For the American Way, working with a variety of coalition partners, vigorously opposes the erosion of freedom represented by the conservative agenda.
